Talk Time: Bias in Generative AI

This workshop offers an accessible and interactive introduction to bias in artificial intelligence for a broad, non-technical audience. Through short presentations, hands-on activities, and group discussions, participants will explore what AI bias is, where it comes from, and how it shapes images, decisions, and real-world outcomes.

Participants will experiment with generative AI tools to observe how stereotypes can emerge and how they can be challenged through thoughtful prompting. Group debates will encourage critical thinking around common claims about AI objectivity, responsibility, and regulation. Real-world examples will illustrate the tangible consequences of biased AI systems, from automated decision-making to public scandals.

Content

This module will cover the following points:

  • What AI bias is, the different types of bias, and where they come from
  • How bias appears in generative AI (images, prompts, training data)
  • Real-world consequences of biased AI systems
  • Recognizing AI-generated content and questioning AI outputs
  • Roles and responsibilities of developers, users, and society
Learning Outcomes

By the end of this training, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand how data and design choices influence AI outputs
  • Critically evaluate AI-generated images and decisions
  • Reflect on responsible and ethical use of AI in everyday contexts
