ELEMENTS OF AI – Talk Time: From Curiosity to Capability - Responsible AI in the Flow of Work

This 2-hour companion session for participants of the Elements of AI MOOC helps you translate AI literacy into everyday workplace routines. This training will cover:

  • where generative AI adds value (drafting, summarising, structuring thinking, translation and option generation)
  • how to move from one-off prompts to repeatable workflows
  • a practical 'traffic-light' rule for privacy, confidentiality and what not to share.

We will also practise lightweight human-in-the-loop verification to reduce confident errors: asking for assumptions, cross-checking key facts, and deciding when AI should not be used. By the end, you will leave with ready-to-use prompt patterns and a personal checklist you can apply, plus a clearer view of organisational realities such as approved tools, risk appetite and 'shadow AI'.

We will briefly discuss why AI adoption stalls in organisations (governance, approved tools, procurement and risk) and how to stay productive without creating avoidable compliance issues.

Content

This module will cover the following points:

  • Where generative AI helps in day-to-day knowledge work (and where it doesn’t)
  • From one-off prompts to repeatable workflows
  • Responsible use in practice: a “traffic-light” rule for privacy and confidentiality
  • Human-in-the-loop verification: lightweight checks to reduce confident errors
  • Organisational reality check: approved tools, governance basics, and “shadow AI”
Learning Outcomes

By the end of this training, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify suitable workplace tasks for generative AI and define a safe, expected output for each
  • Apply a practical “traffic-light” rule to decide what information can (and cannot) be used with AI tools
  • Use a repeatable prompt workflow on a real work example
  • Perform basic verification checks (assumptions, cross-checking key facts) and decide when not to use AI
Training Method

Interactive presentation with short demonstrations and micro-exercises. Participants apply templates to a real work task and leave with a personal checklist and prompt patterns.

Prerequisites

Participants should be enrolled in or have completed the Elements of AI MOOC (or equivalent basic AI literacy).
