Snapshots of Masterpieces: creative prompt engineering for AI vision tools
Unveil the hidden stories behind artworks using the power of AI. This hands-on course introduces participants to creative uses of AI in analyzing visual art. Using tools such as ChatGPT, Grok, Copilot, and DALL·E—without any coding required—participants will explore how AI interprets artistic styles, symbolism, composition, and context. Through guided exercises and prompt engineering, they will combine traditional research with AI-driven exploration. The course also encourages collaborative learning and includes ethical reflections on AI-generated content, including bias, authorship, and cultural sensitivity.
Content
- Introduction to visual AI tools (ChatGPT, Grok, Copilot, DALL·E)
- Basics of prompt engineering for visual analysis
- Strategies for AI-assisted interpretation of artistic elements (style, symbolism, context)
- Ethical considerations in AI-generated content (bias, authorship, cultural sensitivity)
- Collaborative analysis and peer feedback
- AI-based image generation techniques
- Practical troubleshooting and vocabulary development for prompts
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Use internet search tools and AI systems to analyze visual artworks.
- Craft and refine prompts to generate AI-based interpretations of images.
- Evaluate the accuracy and relevance of AI-generated content.
- Identify and explain ethical issues in AI-generated visual analysis, including bias and authorship.
- Distinguish between artistic value in original photos and AI-generated reinterpretations.
Training Method
This course uses a blend of interactive group learning, peer-to-peer feedback, and guided exercises in prompt engineering. Participants work with AI tools in real time, engage in ethical discussions, and produce AI-generated visuals and documented prompts. Troubleshooting support is provided throughout, and the trainer offers individualized feedback based on each participant's exploration.
Additional Information
Computers will be provided. Bring a smartphone (with Wi-Fi connection) and/or your own laptop (if you want to) and 4, or more, pictures of artworks in 2D or 3D.Prerequisites
- Participants should be comfortable using standard internet applications, including web-based tools and platforms such as Microsoft 365.
- Participants should bring at least four digital images they wish to explore during the workshop.
- Participants will benefit from having the following preparations:
- Some knowledge of AI tools and prompt engineering
- A strong interest in using creativity in digital practices
- Some knowledge of art history
- A keen interest in visual art
