Introduction to Blender: Create Your First 3D Illustration

This 15-hour training is designed for individuals with little to no experience in 3D graphics who want to gain a practical introduction to Blender, a leading open-source 3D creation software. Through interactive demonstrations and hands-on exercises, participants will learn the fundamentals of 3D workflows – from basic navigation and modeling to material creation, lighting, and rendering.

The program focuses on producing a high-quality “hero object” presented in a simple scene, such as a stylized prop, decorative item, or fantasy object. By the end of the training, participants will have a completed 3D illustration suitable for personal portfolios or online sharing, and will understand how such assets could be prepared for use in games.

Content
  • Introduction to 3D concepts and the Blender interface
  • Navigation, object management, and scene organization
  • Basic modeling tools: transforms, extrusion, beveling, loop cuts
  • Use of modifiers (Mirror, Subdivision Surface, Bevel)
  • Guided creation of a hero object and supporting props
  • Simple scene composition creation
  • Introduction to materials, shaders, and procedural textures
  • Lighting techniques: HDRI lighting and 3-point lighting setups
  • Camera setup and composition for illustration
  • Rendering with Eevee/Cycles and basic post-processing in Blender
  • Adapting 3D assets for use in games (scale, optimization basics)
Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate Blender’s interface and manage a 3D scene
  • Create and modify 3D models using basic tools and modifiers
  • Apply materials and procedural textures to objects
  • Set up lighting and camera angles for appealing visual presentation
  • Render a high-quality 3D illustration suitable for sharing or portfolio use
  • Understand basic considerations for adapting a 3D asset for games
Training Method

Interactive lectures with live software demonstrations, step-by-step guided modeling exercises, individual hands-on practice, and instructor feedback. Participants will work on a structured project from start to finish, with optional challenges for faster learners. Group discussions and peer reviews will be incorporated to encourage learning from each other’s approaches.
