5G Technologies Essentials

This course framework provides the participants a comprehensive overview and the core principles of essential 5G technologies, focusing on telecommunications principles and network architecture. The course includes practical training; ensuring participants gain valuable skills and knowledge applicable to real-world scenarios (i.e. enhanced connectivity, data transmission optimization) in the telecom sector. Through hands-on trainings, simulations/emulations and final project work, attendees will gain valuable insights into how 5G networks and systems can enable new applications like IoT, robotics, smart cities, and autonomous systems.

Module 1: Telecom System Fundamentals

  • Key Concepts in Signal Transmission
  • Waveforms, Parameters and Channel Characteristics
  • Technological Shift and Limitations of pre-5G technologies
  • Evolution of Mobile Networks Leading to 5G
  • Hands-on activities on telecom simulations


Module 2: Telecom System Architecture

  • Modulation and coding techniques
  • Link budget analysis
  • KPIs and performance metrics
  • Hands-on training using SDR and MATLAB for simulations/emulation


Module 3: 5G Technology

  • 5G architecture
  • Key technologies: Massive MIMO, network slicing, and edge computing
  • Challenges and opportunities in 5G deployment
  • Hands-on labs using OpenAirInterface for 5G network simulations


Module 4: Networking Essentials

  • Computer networks and protocols
  • Network topologies, architectures, and standards
  • Data transmission techniques and performance optimization
  • Practical exercises using network simulation tools


Project: 5G Networks and Systems based Scenario/Use Cases
