Object-Role Modeling (ORM): Precision Design for Databases & Business Logic

This intensive two-day program delivers a comprehensive, hands-on approach to Object-Role Modeling (ORM), empowering you to precisely design application profiles. You'll master a powerful language for structured information modelling, a proven methodology for creating robust models, and essential techniques for validating designs directly with stakeholders. Learn to translate data, descriptions, and complex business rules into clear, actionable models for databases, object-oriented applications, and beyond.

Content

The course will guide you through:

  • The power of Object-Role Modeling (ORM): Discover why ORM is the central pivot for building precise business rules, optimizing database design, and accelerating application development.
  • Structured Model Design Methodologies: Learn proven techniques for developing robust and maintainable ORM models.
  • ORM Language Essentials: Master the core features of ORM for clear and unambiguous information representation.
  • Advanced ORM Techniques: Explore advanced capabilities to handle complex modelling challenges.
  • Stakeholder Validation & Real-World Application: Practice designing and validating models using sample data and controlled natural language, ensuring alignment with business needs.
  • Hands-on Project: Modelling Data-Intensive Software: Apply your skills through practical exercises and a capstone mini-project, building structured models for real-world software applications.
Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Master the ORM Landscape: Gain a deep understanding of how Object-Role Modeling (ORM) fits within the broader software system design paradigm.
  • Apply Robust Design Methodologies: Confidently utilize proven methodologies for developing high-quality, maintainable ORM models.
  • Create & Interpret ORM Models: Fluently read, create, and validate precise ORM models for structured, data-intensive software applications.
  • Effectively Engage Stakeholders: Apply techniques for validating models with stakeholders, ensuring business alignment and successful implementation.
Training Method

This course combines a foundational theoretical component of the what and how, and skills to application of the knowledge to real-world information. Estimated 7.5h theory interspersed with 4.5h lab/practical information modelling with exercises and a small group project.
