Effective digital collaboration (not only for IT professionals)
This eight-session course offers a deep dive into the essential skills needed to thrive in digital collaboration. It targets professionals with little or no experience in remote digital work settings, in IT and also any other office-based jobs, including associations. (Professionals with some digital collaboration experience can also benefit by reflecting and deepening theirs and by bringing their own challenges.) Participants will practice real-world collaboration skills through team-based assignments, using tools such as MS Teams and Miro to create and share content, track tasks, and run productive online meetings. Alongside tool functionality, the course focuses on communication, feedback, and building trusted relationships in a virtual setting.
Content
Collaboration Tools: Master using Microsoft Teams, Planner, OneNote and Miro for effective document sharing, task tracking, and communication.
Asynchronous Communication: Learn strategies for efficient communication, including using the right channel.
Effective Online Meetings: Learn to set up, lead, and participate in online meetings, including developing a professional online presence and tracking tasks using digital tools.
Feedback and Trust: Practice giving and receiving constructive feedback and building trust in remote teams.
Self-Management: Gain techniques for personal productivity, including time management, prioritization, and stress management.
Learning Outcomes
Participants with limited or no prior experience gain confidence in their technical capabilities, understand key soft skills, and receive hands-on strategies for their implementation.
Experienced participants will acquire actionable strategies to enhance their effectiveness and satisfaction in digital collaboration.
Aspiring IT professionals will gain foundational knowledge of commonly used collaboration tools in the industry and learn self-directed strategies to adapt to new tools.
Training Method
The training method is highly interactive and practical, combining hands-on experience with digital tools like Teams and Miro, with expert input and individual coaching.
The first and last sessions will take place on-site at the DLH, while all the others will take place remote via Teams. Participants will need their personal computer for the online sessions. Participants who have never used Teams before will be able to do so after the first on-site session. The first in-person session will ensure all participants are set up and ready for online collaboration.
Participants are encouraged to use their personal computer during the on-site sessions. If they do not have one, the DLH can provide an on-site computer for the first and last session.
